My latest project resulting from a curb side find are raised beds for next year's garden. A local building company was dumping three shipping crates + as luck would have it I saw them + phoned my boy (bring the truck + the trailer). The bottoms were open so I had to salvage boards to fill in the gaps, making the base solid. This required some jigsawing + lots of cutting.
This has been a 100% free project. All of the screws used were from the jumble nail + screw boxes we have amassed over the years. I mentioned the project to a friend + she offered the garden cloth for the bottom. She was given a bolt years ago + still had a lot left (I'll give her gifts from my garden next year).
I thought that filling the bins would be a huge expense. Again, I mentioned the project to a friend who offered her mulch + compost piles (I'll also give her gifts from my garden next year). With fall approaching I'll also have more brown material than I'll know what to do with. There is still a little work to do (the cordless screwdriver ran out of juice last night) + I'm super excited about next year's garden.Have I mentioned how much I love owning a house?

that is awesome! nothing is more rewarding than gardening :) Enjoy!
I took a big fat step away from the computer myself and was so happy to return to seven of your glorious posts. The raised beds look wonderful (and they're recycled and free)!!! And the finds from the neighborhood sale are killing me - the Chemex, in particular. You are the queen scavenger, lady.
I am *so* happy for you that you're able to, with the collaboration of neighbors & friends, make these things work. & how fantastic is it to come back later with fresh produce for everyone?
Your neighborhood sale finds are wonderful--love those candle holders a lot & that bag is awesome, too. Really love those greens together.
