sent back (a book review)

I really do love Maira Kalman + have collected her books since she illustrated the Talking Head's song Stay up Late. Recently I gave away my collection of her children's books (with the exception of Swami on Rye since it's about Max the dog in India), but kept And the Pursuit of Happiness + Principles of Uncertainty.

With an Amazon gift card I got for Christmas, I ordered her latest book, a collaboration with Michael Pollan illustrating Food Rules + I'm sad to say that it was a real disappointment + I returned it. I thought it would be a collection of her illustrating the guidelines for healthy eating presented in his 2009 publication, but rather it was just a hardcover re-packaging his book with a few of her illustrations scattered throughout.

This video by M.K. is far more interesting than owning the book. Enjoy!
