carving

It's raining so I'm inside carving a new piece for a postcard. I set the type awhile back, but am just now getting around to the block.

Listening to The Pogues at high volume. Fairytale of New York is definitely a top 5 favorite song + not just as a Christmas tune, but all year round.

fig trees

After almost 2 years, I think I will finally plant my little fig tree.
There are 5 trees, 4 of which will be given to people at the Quaker meeting house who expressed a deep love of figs.
I ask you, how could you not love figs?

SO not matchy-matchy

If you knew me in real life, you would know that I really like things neat, tidy + match-y match-y. However, I've recently found some kitchen items that totally don't match + they make me so happy.

I only found one of these plates + I eat my lunch off it every day.

These mugs remind me of ones that would have been in the kitchen of the advertising agency my dad worked at in the 70's.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Today is a sunny, beautiful day + I thought about spending it weeding the raised beds to prep for this year's garden (I cannot believe I'm talking garden planning already) but decided to throw open the blinds + spend the day in the studio instead. Creativity is not on my side, but I have so much book binding materials + that's really just assemblage. As I work, I plan on finally listening to the Bottle Rocket DVD commentary.

HAPPY DAYLIGHT SAVINGS!
(except those of you in AZ)

LATER: 2 books + the Bottle Rocket commentary later (which was a let down, 15 years after it's release, Wes + Owen could not remember half of what went on while making the movie), I could not take it any longer + went for a 7 1/2 mile run. It was TOO beautiful to stay inside.

mmmmmneutra

I am still loving the movie Beginners, but had to back-off watching for fear I will wear out my love. In the mean time, I came across this article on the Richard Neutra house (the Lovell Health House) and the sort-of rag tag gathering of all the eye candy furnishings. It sounds like it would have been a lot of fun to work on this movie.

un-bundled!

(I'm been buying house plants + recently got this Dracena Palm)

The result of the conversation with a really lovely woman at my cable co. (at the Mississippi call center who said that I had a good energy that reflected over the phone line) was my Internet service was raised $5 but $15 was knocked off my bill with the removal of super basic cable. I can totally live with that. So happy that my morning will not consist of standing in line at the cable co. office to return my modem. Now off to the post office to stand in line there instead.

Later: while in line at the post office the library called to tell me they have Luther s1 on hold for me. (I watched the first ep this evening + I'm hooked)

Even later
: when I thought about it, I realized that I have paid hundreds of $ in rental fees for a modem that is at this point considered an "end of life" modem. For $47 (actually, $11 because I had $ left on a gift card) I bought a well-reviewed new modem that is apparently the current model my cable co. rents + I will return the old one after all, saving an additional $7 a month. Woo-hoo!
